Retrogaming still and will always shine!

finalfantasyvi_6 Recently I've been playing Final Fantasy VI, I've heard the praise it gets, and being the best Final Fantasy also the best game of all times. So I decided to play it.

FFVI, is the reason that inspired me to write this blog and share my thoughts with everyone :)

Final Fantasy VI may be still old, but it still shines and always will. A long time ago, I used to care a lot of good graphics. It was one of the main elements I looked for in a game. After playing a lot of games that graphics wasn't such a big deal and they were still great, I realized that graphics is not important. Games like Ocarina of Time, Crono Trigger, Super Metroid, Super Mario, the graphics was just simple. But what captivated the gamers was the amazing, unique and special gameplay and/or story of those games I mentioned.

My main topic here is about Final Fantasy VI. I just fought with the final boss today and he was hard to me  I guess I might have neglected leveling later in the game, and there are spells I should have gotten which I didn't. Either ways I was planning to play it for a second time, so I restarted the game from the beginning and I said to myself "I will kick your filthy butt "Final Boss name, don't want to spoil it :P" you son of a sandword! ".

Zelda Ocarina of Time

Anyways, I believe that games in the past used to be better than the ones now. They have this special charm and won't let you forget it. And will always be burried in our minds. It's true there are many great games now, I don't deny that fact. But there are some games that astonished us with graphics, as in the best graphics ever made.. blah blah blah. But in the end the gameplay is just simple and linear. The most important elements in a game "to me" are Gameplay and Story, graphics will help a lot if it was great, as well as music. But I consider music before graphics.

Let's take the Wii for example, it's the least console among the PS3 and 360 in developing a good-graphics game. But isn't it the most selling console yet? I don't mean other consoles don't have good games, in fact they do have great games, with great graphics and gameplay. But that doesn't mean the Wii won't have good games just because it can't bring us a game with graphics as good as the other consoles. What matters here is gameplay. I just finished World of Goo yesterday, the graphics is simple, but the innovative and unique gameplay is what amazed me. It's unlike any other game I've played before.

Well back to the main topic, FFVI is one of those games. Those who didn't play it might wonder, it's just an RPG like any other, what's so special about it?

Well let me tell you, any element that you've seen in most of the FFs after 6 are included in it. There are many sidequests to do that will definitely help you defeat the final boss, in fact there are some that if you don't do you won't beat him. the world is not as big as the other FFs, but it's filled with many secrets scattered around it. And secrets that are fun to explore, talking to people will give you hints. Moreover, ther are 31 espers and 14 playable characters! It contains the most espers and also the most playable characters in the series! This is why I think the gameplay is unique, and it's not only that it's also the amazing equipments you get during your journey, each with it's special stat, and each character has a special ability (More like a fixed job system). And some boss fights might require some strategy, like Fire-Based bosses you will equip shields that absorb fire-based attacks and so on.

chronotriggerinside I also think that the story is unique, because here each character has a background of their own, their special reason to take on this journy to save the world, and why would they go through such trouble. Filled with a special bond between each of them and great emotions, and there are touching moments in the game. I still haven't seen the ending but I'm sure it will be fabulous.

Last but not least, a question to those who played most of the FF series, which is your best and why?

Finally, now my best FF has changed from 7 to 6, for the reason I just mentioned earlier :P and since FF7 was my best game of all time, then.. well you can figure it out now :P

I hope you liked my blog ;)

Take care!
